Damn it.

Today is Chinese New Year's Day, and I'm fucking annoyed for some reason.

Supposedly a family gathering day, which I have long felt the meaning of "family" has been non-existent. So far, I have a very good job with a boss who gives me ample of resources to grow. I'm greatful for it. And this is pretty much the only thing that's going for me. The rest is non-existent. or rather, annoying to say the least. I'm pretty much back to solitude life again, with my parents' words just become something more of a burden or annoyance.

Maybe b/c it's valentine's day, or maybe it's b/c I am 29 and still single. Or maybe it's my parents' always saying the wrong things in front of others, in front of me. I have a paranoid father who would just randomly become psychotic w/o warning, and a step-mom who refuses to recognize that she has become so fat and unhealthy, and the words coming out of her mouth are no different from a 3 year old, literally, and the worst thing is that she is overly proud of herself.

I'm sure things would get better as time goes on (I mean it can't get any worse unless I lost my job again), but at the moment I just need to rant. and probably say a few "f" word to let the anger out of my mind.

Although I live under the same roof with my parents, I have no felt the warmth of being at home for many many years, ever since my mother was gone.

mixed feeling during the lunar holidays.

family gathering was fantastic w/ uncles, aunts, cousins, and of course, the uber grandma, who insisted on chewing a giant piece of fat pork (not recommended for high blood pressure patients...)

met up w/ junior high friend coming back from London. seems like she's having a tough time w/ her doctor's degree and life in a far away land, financially and relationships altogether.

as for me, i celebrated my bday on lunar new year day with lots of greasy food and old time stories from dad's era. good times.

few more days before school starts again. boredom struck me when i started looking for peeps to hang out.

Time has come. My job search is coming to an end and now I have to decide what's the next move. It's kinda exciting, finally working in a real job, unlike teaching English here and there. Would be a good time to escape from home again since I got back from US.

Last night, again, I had a fight w/ Dad. When he failed to enjoy a good night sleep the night before, he is swollen in immense anxiety and will burst out his anger on just about anything. This has been the case for decades, since I became aware of this situation, which is pretty much my whole life time. What should I do? I love my dad, but his uncontrollable anger is just like a volcano that can erupt just about anytime.

Taipei here I come. I hope to establish something of significance soon, at least living indepedently. As for Dad, I pray to God that someday, his/her kind embrace will set you free from that hatred in the bottom of your heart.

Got my grade report on TAITRA test. By all means, I have no intention to work in TAITRA, but come on... my chinese writing score is 67 and my english writing score is 4 points!?

How'd hell did I get only 4 points on English writing? Something fishy going on in the grading system here.

On top of that, I forgot to send in my TOEIC score @ the first day I got them (only thru email, no paper report yet), and therefore I got a big fat zero on the part for TOEIC score....

dang it... I gotta find a way to keep track of things... *sigh

My dad bombarded me w/ insults and suspicions of any wrong doings he could think of every single day.

My step-mom isn't helping either. She monitored me like a 3 yr old. Calling me every 2 hr to see where I was and what I was doing.

What's with young girls and their obession w/ tall guys? I get the short end of the stick for just being who I am. Must I fit into one of those short, rich, high achiever status to have the power to attract the attention I want? It hurts. As always.

I will become stronger. But nonetheless I can't help to think that this society has put the non perfect gene people behind the superior ones that are decided by stereotype.

It's a shame.

This is a rant. But also a great opportunity to drive myself to succeed. Until then, enjoy while it lasts (damn you tall guys), I will become filthy rich and you all will then work for me w/ underpaid wages. Suckers.

Gosh

I am having such mixed feeling right now. I just got back from tea house place. Having the girl's number in my hand, I can't feel any excitement.

I went to the place w/ a friend and told him about my little crush on the girl. He was kind enough to go w/ me. It made a big difference for me to finally have the guts to ask for her number. I asked. She dodged the question by saying what number. Then I said your number. Then the usual "oh but I already have a bf". So I just blah it out that I just wanna be friends b/c I just got back from abroad (why'd hell did I say that for?.. >.< )

So yah, she gave me her number which I haven't tried it yet and I already felt dizzy w/ the whole thing.

But all in all, I did get the number, regardless of real or not. Finally got this thing done, something that I have to go out of my way to force myself to get over the shyness.

At last, I don't need to go back to that tea place and order some expensive tea that my salary definitely cannot afford anymore. whew.

Oh ya, studying for grad school now in full speed... starting... tomorrow... crap... @.@

wow, from 9/22 till today, it's been a little over 6 months. That's how long I've been in this sub military program. Didn't really collect my thoughts together to compose this post so I'll just randomly poop stuff on it as I go along :P

Work is decent so far. Most of my days as a "government" (cheap) employee, I do some chores such as photocopying, paper shredding, and some computer troubleshooting (the most time consuming task so far... seems like people who work in the gov have extremely poor knowledge about technology...)

New People.
On top of 40 guys who live in the same building w/ me (the other sub military cheap labors like me), I've made quite a few friends and get to know peeps from work. Some chicas (part-time working students) and coworkers (the real gov employees). Most are very decent people that are in my department of MoFA (Ministry of Foreign Affair). My boss is a very cool guy who used to live in Chicago for a long time and we get along very well when we're communicating like Americans.

Near future plan.
Decided on doing grad school in Taiwan, I start picking up books again (although @ a very slow pace... VERY ^.^;; ) Free spanish lecture offered by MoFA employee training center should start next week, a good time to refresh my poor espanol memory... so ya... more studying and exercising... less gaming and getting fat.. >.<

Now... peeps... update your blog damn it... I'm bored @ work again...

Let's see.

I started this alternative army service thing since 05/9/22. 1 month of training at the Cheng-Gong military base. 1 month of training at Tian Mu training center. Now I'm working in the Ministry of Foreign Affair (MoFA) of Taiwanese government. So much has been going on.

Boot camp was a total waste of time doing nothing but to "get disiplined" by brainless military personnels. Afterall, I guess I made a few friends to at least got something out of this.

Then, an unexpected chance came around. MoFA's NGO (Non Government Org) division called ICDF decided to fill in a few more slots to send oversea for diplomatic work. So I got in the drawing and jumped on board.

In order to switch from an English teaching duty in the deep mountains of Taiwan, I decided to go aboard, which confronted with great opposition from my parents, mainly my mom. She said I've been in the US for almost a decade and I should stay in Taiwan for a while. I had a couple of angry moments at home with my parents and at the end my dad signed the silly release form which allowed me to go aboard.

You would think things are settled after that. Well, it didn't.

After I began my training at Tian Mu in Taipei, we had a drawing which decided where we would be assigned to. I got the best pick in Africa, called Swaziland, located inside of South Africa. But then, here came the problem. Africa.

My mother got all worked up with me going to African country, albeit it was quite a developed country. She got connection in the Conscription Agency in the government and insisted in pulling me out of ICDF just so I wouldn't be near people with AIDS.

I had a big fight with my parents. Till this day I'm still mad at them. A great opportunity for me to travel aboard, especially to Africa, I mean when on earth would you be going to Africa in your whole life. I'm also missing out serving this civil duty with maximum pay you can get, I would be 300k NT richer if I've gone. Now I'm stuck in the domestic department of MoFA and do the most trivial things every day, with pay that is not even enough for my expenses on food.

*sigh

All right, enough grumbling for one day. Back to photoopying and paper shredding T.T

Bugger

I thought I'd be well on my way to africa. All expenses are on the country's money to send me abroad, onward to Swaziland. Now my dad has gone through some connections to get me off. I am now waiting to be moved to internal department of TW's Diplomatic dept. Most likely will be doing nothing but walk around w/ a clerk and helping him/her filing papers. And my pay will go from 30k NT per month back down to 6k NT. All this is b/c that my dad. He said you're going to africa, the land of AIDS, is almost suicidal. *sigh

I wonder when I will be in charge of my own life. Talk about how annoying it is to be the only child. This is really frustrating as I have gone back to wasting my life on gaming and killing my days.

Mixed feeling these days...

Sad news. My cousin was killed in an accident. I miss him already.
My poor aunt, lost her husband 24 yrs ago, now she lost her only son.

Happy news. I graduated. Finally.

Busy news. Cousin John left us a bunch of stuff to take care of, the house, his car, and his other loans/properties.

Depressed. I felt that many of John's friend and his gf seems to want something from him. even his step brother comes to take a lot of his stuff. They said they're here to help my aunt clear out his belongings. What I'm wondering is, she needs more help to pay off a lot of the expenses to resolve the whole financial mess that John left us. (some loans and others) and no one is there to help her w/ that.

I felt like watching vultures coming to pick off anything that is left of my cousin. *sigh.

i miss my dog Bear. he was John's dog. a very happy, cute, and horny dog. i miss him.

Looking forward to see some of you at E3. Too bad Dave and Ben cannot make it. Looking forward to see parents. I finally finish schooling and i get to live close to them again. aiight, here is something new for y'all... this summer has been quite nice and important for me. Time for me to put myself on the line again for something that challenges me... after all these years since leaving cmu..

I've decided to take my chances getting into a decent grad school in taiwan. Going thru all the grad school exams and stuff April and May of next year, hopefully put myself into a good school and actually lead me into the field of education and learning again. Put me back in the world of fierce competitions that I have distanted myself for quite some time.

Been picking up some books this summer doing some slow pace studying, trying to get myself used to the mood for studying, gonna have to pick up the pace when regular semester starts if I plan to beat the locals (taiwanese college grads) armed with old fashioned "after school reviewing" outside-school classes/institutions

i need the excitement of gambling in the world of competitions, hunger for success and victory, esp on something that I was not good at... a breakthru for myself, a bit scared of what's gonna happen next year, wish me luck :P

ahh long time no blog... Nothing much going on these days, slacking at home and go swimming when i remember.

Last sunday and yesterday which was a monday, I went to my dad's NthU 清華大學 college classmates reunion trip on 雪霸 SheiBa resort (in high moutain)

Originally I was very unhappy to go cuz i couldnt meet some of my friends. however, it turns out to be a great trip for both my dad and i. scenery was good and food was decent. met two "big sis" 姐姐 from NTU grad school, one guy doing phd in stanford, and three younger pupils from chicago, the oldest is gonna be a fresh-woman in UChicago. These ppl turn out to be very open and talkative and we had a good time in short two-day trip. i had some trouble to chat w/ these three kids from chicago (18yr Julie, 16yr Richard, and a 13yr Vicki) b/c their dad seemed to like having a very close watch on his kids :P

First of all, want to say that it was a blast at E3, not so much of the game convention, mostly b/c the gathering of friends, karaoke, movie, go-karting, etc... It was fun and we should definitely do something like this again :D

It's been a few days without internet at home. It feels kinda nice actually. I no longer find myself playing some online games at 2 am when my gaming addiction kicks in. I guess I need someone to cut me the comfort so I will be forced to be more productive these days :P

Gone out w/ Anna, Charley, Martha for another movie run, Eternal sunshine this time, decent movie, although I was a bit confused with the time frames here and there. Drove Martha back to pick up her car and she pumped that WRX in my face on her way home and left me in the dust.... I will be back with a faster car in a few !!

Wow long time no blog...

First week of school comes to an end... well only 2 days...

Met some new ppl... mainly girls... all from HK...

Whew, it's nice to read other ppl's blogs. Although I'm here in Cali and don't see a lot of old buds, I can still know what they're up to. :P

Had a long talk w/ dad last nite. I'm still lost in the mist of my uncertain life journey. It is rather scary to look ahead and no able to see where I'll be ending up. I look back to my life. I have found lots of precious time wasted. Still so much needed to be done. I wonder when I'll be able to have a paycheck that is bigger than my parents'. Competition has grown tremendously over the decades and hopefully I'll still exist under the natural selection. whew.

Here is a philosophical question. Why are we in this world? Fed n educated for 20 years so we would be able to feed a family of our own and perhaps pass on some of our memories to them?

People are working hard mindlessly to earn that paychecks for their kids, their family, their house, cars, or if they're lucky, their next vacation. Is this what life is all about? I'm lost. Clueless. Enjoying life by means of material pleasure, which stray so far away what I had planned for.

I guess what I am doing now is enjoying whatever is available around me, for that maybe people, or certain things. I don't know. Fate has changed the world that I had in mind, I have lost all the confidence that I have any control of anything.

One voice in my head would be "finish school, find a job" while the other me will be hiding under the cover of flashy graphix and sound of the games and media world.

20 years have passed by and I'm still afraid to leave the green house...

血清治療新希望

　　國際新聞中心╱綜合報導　香港SARS病患增加速度已趨緩，但病患死亡率遠高於他國，使外界對香港以抗病毒藥雷巴威林（Ribavirin）加類固醇的治療法多所質疑，香港中大專家的臨床經驗顯示，利用康復病人血清的療法副作用比使用類固醇少，成效較佳，病患死亡率亦低很多，可能成為治SARS的新希望。香港醫管局昨日已同意有條件開放血清治療與中藥治療。

　　香港以雷巴威林加類固醇治SARS成效率，已由初期的九成半降至目前的八成多。中大一個多月前開始研究以康復病人血清進行治療，獲得明顯效果。

　　中大內科及藥物治療學系主任沈祖堯說，接受血清治療的病人很快便退燒，肺部的X光片亦重現清晰，廿多人中無人死亡，亦未見到任何嚴重的併發症。但類固醇組病人中已有四人死亡。

幾年前，有個美國的新聞主播因為批評臺灣的經濟政策對美國不好，提出臺灣威脅論
，結果幾天後他的車子就一群來路不明的臺灣留學生給砸了。

這件事引起美國ＦＢＩ的高度注意，因為由現場來看，是由一個叫做
「TAMADE」的恐怖組織幹的，因為該車到處被紅漆噴得一塌糊塗，到處寫著「TAMADE」的字樣。

我覺得FBI應該學點中文才對，因為TAMADE的意思就是............

3 things that I discovered today...

1st, I forgot to bring my cap w/ me today to school and end up show off my funky haircut (pretty much a pile of hay). And it turns out I've been greeted by so many people. Perhaps, the fact that I greeted others first might have something to do w/ it. The feedbacks were mostly all pleasant :) I never noticed that my cap is holding back so much popularity :P hehee...

2nd, music is my life. Well, an essential part of it. I will be very irriated if it is too quiet around me unless im sleeping. Yes, to your surprise, I need music while I'm studying, it helps me concentrate, by blocking out all the other noises. It's like a spiritual kind of food for me. Every beat is like a drop of water. :P

3rd, I just realized I have 2 tests tomorrow.... Errrr.... and also my aunt's house is so big that you guys should come visit me!!! There are two cars availible for use also.... free hotel fee and free car rental and free humorous tour guide aka me (in case if u havnt figured that out), what else can you ask for!!! Trust me, LA is loaded w/ fun.

近來在企業管理領域出現了個新名詞：AQ（Adversity Quotient），
明確地描繪出一個人的挫折忍受力。AQ（逆境商數）是我們在面對逆境時的處理能
力。

根據AQ專家保羅•史托茲博士的研究，一個人AQ愈高，愈能以彈性面對逆境，
積極樂觀，接受困難的挑戰，發揮創意找出解決方案，
因此能不屈不撓，愈挫愈勇，而終究表現卓越。

相反的，AQ低的人，則會感到沮喪、迷失，處處抱怨，逃避挑戰，缺乏創意，
而往往半途而廢、自暴自棄，終究一事無成。

AQ不但與我們的工作表現息息相關，更是一個人是否快樂的重要關鍵。
尤其在大環境不景氣的當下，不論是在職或待業，突發狀況的發生機率都會提高，
因此練就一身回應逆境的好本領，就愈顯重要了。

到底該怎麼做，才能提昇自己的AQ呢？

（1）凡事不抱怨，只解決問題：

碰到不如意的情況，AQ低的人會怪東怪西，都是別人的錯，害自己不能如願，
抱怨過後，心情往往更加沮喪，而問題依舊無解。
AQ高的人通常沒時間抱怨，因為他們正忙著解決問題。
所以請減少抱怨的時間，因為少一分時間抱怨，就多一分時間進步。

（2）先看優點，再看缺點：

當挫折發生時，如果第一個念頭是：「完了，這下沒救了。」
那就很難逃脫悲觀的詛咒。AQ高手的做法是，遇到狀況，
先問自己：「現在有什麼是可珍惜的？」
換句話說，在挫折中找優勢，並把它轉化成進步的助力。
例如，突然失業當然錯愕，但想一想，現在多了時間自己可支配，還有資遣費，
於是再進修培養第二專長，似乎會是不錯的想法，也許就此開創出另一番格局。
畢竟，自怨自哀解決不了問題，懂得在逆境中找機會，才是高AQ的精彩表現。

（3）將當下的不幸，變成日後的「幸虧」：

看待挫敗，AQ高手清楚知道，一時的成敗並不能定一生。
就像李安，大學沒考上，卻因此找到了自己真正的舞台，
現在想想，還真「幸虧」當時沒考上大學，要不現在就不是這番光景了。
因此只要保持樂觀，賽翁失馬焉知非福，AQ高手就能將當下的不幸，變成日後回顧
時的「幸虧」。

讓我們一起提昇自己的逆境商數，如此一來，工作上的卓越成就，一定指日可待。

成功是一種習慣、一種態度、那是我們與生俱來的一種本能。

-Reinstalled windows for the nth time

A son and his father were walking in the mountains.

小男孩不小心跌倒了,忍不住痛的大叫了一聲"哇......喔"

但是令他吃驚的是,他聽到了一個聲音從山中的某處傳出來,重覆他的聲音"哇 .....喔"
To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"

他很好奇的大聲問"你是誰
Curious, he yells: "Who are you?"

結果他得到的答案也是 "你是誰?"
He receives the answer: "Who are you?"

小男孩生氣了,大聲地吼著"膽小鬼"
Angered at the response, he screams:"Coward!"

他很好奇的問他父親 "到底怎麼回事啊???"

After 4 hrs of accounting class, (3 1/2hr are passed by nodding my head repeatedly) then, some guy left during the break time. Then a cute girl filled the seat, which is on the left of me. OH YEAH! I did not fall asleep during the rest of the class... lol

Zooming 80mph on from 5 to 134 then 210 freeway, I sang along with Jay Chow and my beloved trance songs, life is good.

I got home. Look up. Clear sky with so many stars winking at me :D I feel great joy. It is a peaceful scene. I have not really look at those stars since I was an elementary student back in Taiwan. I am living the life I want, I am not sure what my future holds, but I am living my life right this moment. For me, happiness is everything. My family has given me lots of appreciations upon spiritual life. I have a very tight and lovely family. Material life is rather dull for me in comparison.

For my dearest friends in CMU, I hope you too can find your life while you're living it. I know you guys are very busy and working very hard. 4 years of college, make it worth it, not only to find a job in the future, make it part of your great memory of life. Cheers :D
